SUSTAINABILITY AT EDIE ROSE

Sustainability Statement for Edie Rose Florist

At Edie Rose Florist, we are deeply committed to promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship through every aspect of our business. We believe in the power of nature to bring beauty and joy to people's lives, and we are dedicated to ensuring that this beauty is cultivated with care and respect for the planet.

Floral Foam - OASIS

We gave up using this years ago.  Oasis floral foam is extremely bad for the environment:
  • Microplastics
Floral foam is a single-use plastic that breaks down into microplastics when discarded. These microplastics can pollute water and harm aquatic and terrestrial life.
  • Toxic chemicals
Floral foam is made from a toxic combination of chemicals, including formaldehyde and phenolic foam. These chemicals can leach into the environment when the foam comes into contact with water, contaminating water sources and posing health risks to humans and animals.
  • Non-biodegradable
Floral foam is not biodegradable and can exist in the environment for hundreds, thousands, or millions of years.
  • Pollution and carbon emissions
The production and disposal of floral foam contribute to pollution and carbon emissions.
You can get compostable alternative to floral foam like TerraBrick or Agra Wool but we tend to use chicken wire, reusuable vials and vessels to create stunning displays which can be dismantled and used again and again.

Waste Collection through COM:POST

We are work with a this new company com:post which means almost 100% of our green waste is turned into compost, helping us offset the carbon emissions that are currently a huge issue for the floristry industry. Working with a number of partners, our innovative closed loop system enables consumers and florists to turn their cut flowers into compost that will go onto grow future flowers and food.

Eco-Friendly Sourcing

In British growing season, we prioritise sourcing flowers and plants from local, sustainable farms that practice organic and environmentally responsible growing methods. By reducing our reliance on imports, we minimize our carbon footprint while supporting local growers who share our passion for eco-conscious cultivation. Whenever possible, we choose seasonal blooms that are grown without harmful chemicals or pesticides, ensuring that our arrangements are not only beautiful but also environmentally kind.

Waste Reduction

At Edie Rose, we are committed to reducing waste throughout our operations. We practice mindful design, ensuring that every arrangement is crafted with intention and minimal waste. We recycle and reuse materials such as packaging, ribbons, and vases to further limit our environmental impact.

Sustainable Packaging We strive to eliminate single-use plastics by opting for biodegradable or reusable packaging materials. Our bouquets are wrapped in eco-friendly paper and our white paper bags from recycled paper.  We encourage our customers to return and reuse vases, promoting a circular economy. We are always seeking innovative ways to reduce plastic use and make sustainability a natural part of every purchase.

Energy Efficiency We actively reduce our energy consumption by utilizing energy-efficient lighting and appliances in our store. In addition, we aim to lower emissions associated with deliveries by offering carbon-neutral delivery options and optimizing routes to decrease fuel use.

Community Engagement Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond our shop. We collaborate with local environmental initiatives, participate in tree-planting campaigns, and engage in community education on the importance of eco-friendly floristry. We believe that small, everyday actions can have a lasting impact, and we are proud to partner with our community to create a greener, healthier future.

At Edie Rose Florist, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that by embracing environmentally responsible practices, we can not only deliver beautiful, fresh flowers but also contribute to a thriving, sustainable world for future generations.
